Ego check, v 2.0
Had quite an interesting ego check over the weekend. On Saturday, I did the weekly grocery shopping... got back and was unpacking the car when I noticed a very discernible "hsssssss" noise. A quick check of my front tire, and lo and behold, there's a large nail in the dead center. No worries. Called my father in law, he's got some plugs we can use. I jacked up the car, removed the tire, put the spare on, took the car off the jack (not good to leave the car sitting for extended periods of time on the jack, after all) and took it over to him. He plugged it and filled it with air, and we decided to let it sit overnight to ensure it took. Called over there on Sunday. Tire's still full, so we're good to go. I tell my mother in law that I'll be over there in a few minutes to get the tire. Mother in law: "Ok, let me see if Don can put the tire on for you." Me: "Why? I'm putting it on." Mother in law: *long pause, then incredulous* "YOU?!?" Apparently the fact that I know how to change a tire isn't one of the skills she thought I possessed. I responded sarcastically, "Well, I took it OFF, I think I could get it back on..." and we went over there. THEN Yes, my story's not done. My wife and I, after the car was done, decided to go for a walk. In laws said they'd watch our kids, so we took off at a nice pace. Down by the bridge about halfway through the walk, my wife turns to me and does a double take. Wife: "Oh my god, wow hun, you ARE getting a lot of gray in your hair!" ... ... ... sigh. | | Wednesday, September 9th, 2009 | | 12:32 pm |
Time is NOT on my side...
A bad start to the day is when you look in the mirror and spot a gray hair, a reminder that yes, you are getting older by the day, and time waits for no one. A worse start to the day is when said hair is a nose hair. sigh... | | Thursday, August 6th, 2009 | | 9:26 pm |

Finding me! Whoo!
Welp, I've now joined the throng of masses on Facebook and Myspace. I'm not sure I want to bother with Twitter... not sure I could sum up my day in 140 characters or less. :p Anyhoo, friend me/poke me/whatever it is that they do on those, and I'll add you. Time for me to return to the living, full time, me thinks. :) >Matt / Net | | Thursday, July 9th, 2009 | | 9:01 am |
I'm sorry Madison, your daddy is an idiot.
Got a call from the daycare this morning, about 15 min after I'd dropped her off. Apparently my brain wasn't QUITE functioning on all gears this morning... I'd remembered to pack her four bottles, I'd remembered to put the nipples and lids on them, I'd even remembered to drop a package of sweet potatoes and a spoon into the bag before I left the house. ... You'll notice I didn't mention a THING about filling said bottles with formula. I brought four empty bottles to daycare this morning. :p Thank god there's a Kroger just down the road... and now I can cross formula off of the grocery list for this weekend, at least. Sigh... they were having FAR too much amusement at my expense at the daycare when I showed up with the new container of formula. Ah well... >Matt / Net | | Wednesday, July 8th, 2009 | | 8:37 am |
Sigh...
How some people make it through the day... I swear. This is a VERBATIM from this morning. Guy ahead of me at Hardees rolls down his window. Lady on the other end goes "Thank you for stopping at Hardees, can I take your order?" He says, "Yeah, uh... are y'all serving Whoppers yet?" There was a pause, followed by "Uh, sir, this is Hardees, not Burger King." He replies, "Oh, right, I'm at Hardees! Uh... y'all serving ThickBurgers yet?" Another pause, then "Um, sir, no, sorry, we're currently serving breakfast." He replies, "Well, what d'ya have with meat in it?" I KNOW that the poor woman wanted to reply with "Sir, there's a FRIGGIN menu RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOUR FACE, JUST READ IT!!" But to her credit, there was simply another pause, followed by "Well, sir, we do have sausage and egg biscuits on sale, buy one get one free." He replied, "Oh... I don't like eggs. Could I get two of those buy one get one free thingies, without the eggs?" The lady replied, "Well, sir, if you'd like, two sausage biscuits currently are $1.89." (Note, one sausage and egg biscuit costs $2.14, so the buy one get one free would be more expensive) He replied, "No, no, give me the buy one get one free thingie, and don't put egg on em." She said after a moment, "$2.33, please drive around." * * * HOW did this person make it into his mid-40s?!? AUGH!!!! My head hurts. >Matt / Net | | Thursday, July 2nd, 2009 | | 11:27 am |
OMG the HORROR!!!!
Heh, went on a trip into the light fantastic today, and started looking through all my really really old files. Here's a few of the gems I found. Apparently I thought that a story involving angels coming down from heaven to play professional football was a good story. Never got past chapter two, it looks like... I don't remember when, but apparently I started into a play-by-email group that involved Victorian-era Hogwarts. My student was a first-year student right off the streets, could use magic... but couldn't read. He was great with oral commands and loved using the broom to fly... but his scores in anything written were ABYSMAL. Actually wasn't a bad concept... but now I'm horrified to have been even part of a PBeM Harry Potter anything. :D Some of this stuff's pretty damn morbid. The HELL was wrong with me back then... Anyhoo, sometimes it's fun to look back like that. :D >Matt / Net | | Thursday, June 25th, 2009 | | 7:31 pm |
Wow.
Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson, both in the same day!? Good lord. At least Farrah's beyond pain now, and Michael doesn't have to worry about any of his multitude of problems anymore. :( My heart goes out to those two families, even though they'll both never see this. >Matt | | Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009 | | 11:44 am |

No, I'm not dead or back in WoW again.
Yup, I'm still here... life's just being its annoying busy self again. I have started writing again, though, thank GOD... got a new story in the queue at Elfwood for the Herscher Project's latest... er, project. ... That's redundant. Ah well. :) >Matt / Net | | Thursday, May 28th, 2009 | | 9:29 am |
Webcomic news, and family photo updates
Heh. I'm honestly very, very excited to be starting work on a third webcomic again... More and more each day, my writing brain is kicking back into gear. GOD it feels good to be creating again. I can feel the gears shifting back into place, I can taste the plots starting to line up again... That writer's block took way too long to go bye-bye. Becky, I can't WAIT to see what you come up with. :D :D :D And on to family photos!!! Let's see if I remember how to do a LJ cut... ( Aha, thank you prior post editing skills! )Yes, she's already spoiled rotten. :) >Matt / Net | | Wednesday, May 27th, 2009 | | 9:52 am |
Back to all my old haunts now
Ok, I finally remembered my Deviantart password again, so now I'm back to all my old haunts. LJ, Elfwood, DA... just like old times. Might even start, I dunno... writing short stories for said sites again. Wouldn't that be different. :D >Matt | | Tuesday, May 19th, 2009 | | 10:30 am |
I'm a woman!
Apparently, anyway. GenderAnalyzer informed me ( Here's the link) that there's a 64% chance that my LJ was written by a woman. Dunno the qualifications, perhaps I'm just too wordy to be a guy? Am I supposed to just grunt, talk about sports and/or bewbs, and post random links to stuff on the internet instead? Meh, whatever. :) >Net | | Friday, May 15th, 2009 | | 12:25 pm |
So far, so good...
GM announced today that they were going to be announcing via FedEx what dealerships were being closed. The FedEx came and went... and no letter for us. So so far, we're in the clear.. unless it got lost in the mail, or we're getting a phone call instead. *crosses fingers* >Matt | | Thursday, May 14th, 2009 | | 9:00 am |
A present for Daddy
Madison gave my wife and I a present last night. She went to sleep at 9:30... and woke up at 5:15 this morning (I normally get up on a regular day at 6:00). GOD I hope she does this more than just last night. >Matt | | Friday, May 8th, 2009 | | 8:15 am |

Elfwood moderation
Oh, and if any of you all are still moderators at Elfwood... I have NO idea how I'm supposed to log in anymore, or even if I'm still a moderator there. :) Elfwood's gone... weird... since I looked last. Guess I'll get used to it. >Matt | | 8:57 am |
Returning to the written world
Alrighty. It's now been two, three weeks since I gave up World of Warcraft for good, and I think this time's for GOOD good, unlike most of my prior pathetic attempts. I've had ZERO urge to reinstall the game, I've stopped checking armory pages constantly to see what new upgrades I could be getting for my gear, and I've even stopped going to the websites of my guilds. Writing is returning at a decent pace. I've managed to write a few scripts for my webcomics, as well as a couple of short stories and the like. It feels GOOD to create again, I'd forgotten just how much I enjoy watching things come to life on the page before me. And more importantly, I'm actually seeing my daughter grow. That was the turning point for me, when I one day looked down and she was grinning at me... and I remarked to Donna "Hey look she's smiling at me" and she replied "Yeah, she's been grinning off and on for two weeks..." ... and I had NOT noticed because I was too busy working on getting that last little bit from Naxx before Uldaur came out. That was the last straw, no more MMORPG's for me. I get too sucked into them... just can't do that anymore. So now I need to really get fully back into writing again. That's all there is to it. :) >Matt | | Monday, August 25th, 2008 | | 4:45 pm |
hello? Is this thing still on?
Heh, whaddya know, I remembered my password again. Just thought I'd post a bit of news here, since some (read, 2 of you) still read my LJ on occasion. 1) the writer's block of almost 2 years is beginning to crumble. I've had a few stories finally starting to circulate within my head, and it feels good to be thinking of plotlines, characters, and whatnot again. 2) I haven't been TOTALLY idle while I've been gone... Child #2 is due sometime in March of next year. :p We're thinking it's a girl, but it's too early to tell just yet (10 weeks) Anyhoo... anyone know anyone that'd be willing to draw a modern-day superhero comic? I've got one that's languishing that I'd like to get moving again. :) *disappears back into the ether again* >Matt / Net | | Monday, July 16th, 2007 | | 10:11 pm |
